Surf Coast, VIC

Is there a better area for surfing anywhere in Australia? If it wasn’t so dam cold between March and October, it would be the home of Australian surfing. Torquay rivals Coolangatta for vibes.

We spent 12 days just north of Torquay at Breamlea. A cute little caravan park that was about half the price in town (or Anglesea or Lorne for that matter).

On Monday Ella surfed with a local female longboarders group who were the nicest people. On Wednesday she surfed the same spot alone (might have been half a foot smaller). Come Saturday and the car park was jammed and I kid you not, at least 250 bodies in the water across 3 sections. It was insane and bizarre. So we headed to Anglesea for a cute little surf with 2 others.

Ella also got a surf in at Lorne. Now, that is a town I fell in love with. Great beach, unreal shopping options, buzzing town but not too intense.

There were some obvious spots we steered clear from as there was a large surfing competition at Bells happening.

Being only 90 mins from Melbourne it makes sense this stretch of coast blows up between Friday and Sunday. If I had a spare 2mil I’d look to invest. And if you happen to have the money, I have a good builder in the area.
