The Best Longboard Waves in Western Australia

Traveling Western Australia over the past six months has been nothing short of extraordinary. We’ve explored over 2,200 kilometers of pristine coastline in search of the perfect longboard waves. Along the way, we’ve met incredible people, shared stories with fellow surfers, and witnessed some of the most breathtaking waves imaginable. After much exploration, here are our three favorite longboard waves in WA.

1. Wharton Beach

Located over an hour east of Esperance, Whartons Beach is a hidden gem that feels like a slice of paradise. The water here is so clear and vividly light blue that it almost feels surreal. The beach’s accessibility for vehicles adds convenience, allowing you to park right by the waves.

What makes Whartons particularly unique is its rare left-hander, a treat for goofy-footers and anyone seeking a bit of variety. While it’s remote, the isolation only adds to its charm—there’s nothing quite like sharing a perfect wave with only a handful of other surfers in such an unspoiled setting.

2. Wobiri

If you’re in Exmouth, Wobiri should be at the top of your list. This wave is Exmouth’s only sand-based entry point, making it a fantastic spot for beginners. Its long, mellow ride offers plenty of opportunities for quality turns and cross-stepping along your board.

Unlike most of the waves on the Ningaloo Coast, which are often hollow and fast, Wobiri is gentler and more forgiving, attracting longboarders who appreciate a clean, rolling wave. The predominant right-hander makes it a go-to spot for those seeking consistent and approachable surf.

3. Huzza’s

Situated in the Margaret River region, Huzza’s is a standout longboard wave. This spot boasts an A-frame that breaks off a reef, offering both left and right-hand options for riders. The wave’s consistency is unmatched, making it a reliable destination no matter the conditions.

Huzza’s also has a fantastic setting, nestled between two renowned point breaks that cater to shortboarders tackling shallow reefs. Whether you’re hanging ten or watching the action from the shore, the energy of this spot is hard to beat.

While Western Australia is often celebrated for its shortboard-friendly waves, longboarders will find gems that rival the best in the world. The charm of WA’s longboard waves lies in their diversity and sheer beauty. From the hyper-blue waters of Whartons Beach to the beginner-friendly fun at Wobiri and the consistency of Huzza’s, these waves offer something special for every longboard enthusiast.

We hope you enjoy your wave-hunting adventure across Western Australia as much as we have!
